STATION 1 - Precision Timings The first station is the Precision Timing Station. In this station, students work on sheets that drill them on the 4 math operations, decimals, reducing fractions, and decimal/fraction/percent conversion. Students are given one minute to complete as many of the problems on their sheet as possible. They do two timings each day. Students correct each of their timings and record the date, the number of digits written down, and the number of errors made. Students then graph the best of their two timings always looking for improvement. Having students record their results gives them feedback immediately as to how well they are improving on each sheet. If they are making too many errors they know or are reminded that they may need to slow down a bit. If they are making only a few errors, it is recommended that they try to speed up. Not only is it easy for the teacher to monitor student progress, but students learn to monitor their own progress as well. Small groups give the teacher many opportunities to check for student improvement on each individual sheet. |
